Subscribe the bio/biomed Virtual Organization

Introduction

This document is intended for users who wants to adhere to the BIO or BIOMED Virtual Organization (VO).
The first one bio is an italian VO VOMS (Virtual Organization Membership Service), while biomed is a VO EGEE wide LDAP.
A VOMS is a service that keep track of the members of a VO and grants users authorization at VO level. It provides some additional features in order to support group membership, roles and capabilities.
The authentication for the VO LDAP is performed thanks to a LDAP-based membership list.

Instructions to adhere to the biomed Virtual Organization

In order to adhere to the biomed Virtual Organization you have to follow the instructions given at the following web site:

Instructions to adhere to the bio Virtual Organization (*)

1.) Open a browser to the following web page:

        https://voms.cnaf.infn.it:8443/voms/bio/webui/request/user/create
       
    and fill the form with your personal data as follows:




2.)    Currently users can submit the role membership within the request by specifying it in the comment section of the form. Allowed roles that can be chosen are :
  
  - bioinfogrid 
  - libi 
  - litbio

2.) Submit the request clicking on the button.
 
    You should get:

.. and an email address confirmation by the VO Admid

 A request for a VO membership on bio has been made using this email address.

 If you have not made this request please ignore this message.
 It would be helpful if you would contact the VO registrar and tell us about this bogus request.

 If the request was made by you, please click on the following URL to confirm this email address,

  https://voms.cnaf.infn.it:8443/voms/bio/webui/request/user/confirm?cookie=4cwso550e83ujevw&reqid=15

 Make sure you have your client certificate loaded in your browser.
 One way to ensure this is to copy and paste the above URL into the same browser that you used to submit the request.

 If you wish to confirm the request another way, then you need the following information:
 
  Request number     : 15
  Confirmation cookie: 4cwso550e83ujevw

3.) Confirm the request clicking on the above URL.

 
4.) If you have properly confirmed the request, you should get the following answer:

 Thank you for confirming your email address. Your request for an account on VO bio has been sent to the VO administrators.

 A VO administrator will probably contact you to confirm account creation.

6) A final e-mail sent by the VO Admin inform you when you can start to initialize the proxy using the VO credentials.

 Your request (15) for the bio VO has been accepted and allowed by the VO Administrator.

 From this point you can use the voms-proxy-init command to acquire the VO specific credentials, which will enable you to use the resources of this VO.
